Media Options

All meals on both SA Express and Airlink are served in high quality full colour UV varnished Mealboxes.

The passenger is served a meal in the Mealbox which is then opened and the lid which faces the passenger for the duration of the meal has an ad printed on it.

The major advantage of the Mealbox over any other form of print media is the extended dwell time. The Mealbox lid with the ad can face the passenger for anything up to 30 minutes. This ensures excellent impact, notability and content recall by the passenger. The extended dwell time also allows for the communication to be both copy and content rich.

The Mealbox also allows for removable tabs where passengers can fill in contact details for the purposes of competitions and database building.

Other opportunities in the Mealbox

The contents of the Mealbox allow for numerous branding opportunities:

Cutlery pack

Including: refresher towel, sugar, salt and pepper sachets toothpick, serviettes

Opportunities also exist for product placement within the Mealbox. Examples could be chocolates, biscuits, health bars and this form of product placement is ideal for new product launches.

Brochure Inserts

The opportunity exists for brochure inserts to be served with the meal – this is available on both airlines and is available only out of JHB. One of the unique features of this option is that passengers can receive a brochure insert in more than one language (DL size Z fold gives you 6 sides for copy). Another advantage is that the passenger can remove the insert for further reference.

Mile High Mail Easy Reader

This is something unique which we have just developed and to which the SA Express and Airlink have given the go ahead. We are still finalising the finished format – essentially it allows passengers to read a newspaper on board without interfering with fellow passengers. The concept will allow it to be branded with the sponsoring company’s name and with same company’s ads going into the various sleeves. The client will supply the printed ads and they will be interchangeable on a two weekly basis or longer if necessary.

Drinks Trolley and related branding:

  • Tea and coffee jugs
  • Rummer glasses (plastic drinks glasses can be sandblasted with a brand)
  • Paper cups

Other options with branding include:

  • Air sick bag (how about advertising an anti-nausea drug?)

On-Board Ads® invites agencies to present any innovative proposals to us which we can then forward to SA Express and Airlink for consideration.
